Through the use of animal interactions and nature-based activities we aim to overcome barriers faced regardless of physical or learning disability, mental health challenges,
age, gender, culture, economic status or background.
Our core aims are:
During lockdown we became very aware of the adverse effects the restrictions were having on mental and physical health. With parks and open spaces closed and social restrictions in place we realised that many families had no access to a garden and no support network. More children have been exposed to long periods of screen time which can cause physical strain on the eyes and body, weakened emotional judgement and delayed learning. The Public Health England report on the impact of Covid-19 on children and young people from 12th April 2021, states long term impacts of COVID-19 include mental health illness, obesity, anxiety and social isolation issues.
What happens in the early years of a child’s life has a profound impact on the rest of their life. Their early experiences shape who they become. Because of this we decided to create Muddy Mindfulness. Muddy’s is an outside play area for children (and adults) where children can explore and play and learn the Forest School way. Outdoor play has such profound benefits on children’s development. Unstructured play outside has a list of benefits:
